Currently, there is no one else solely dedicated to producing retro dinosaur models. Most are competing to produce the most up-to-date scientifically accurate model dinosaurs, or focus on certain film franchises. The core purpose of Zealandia Models is to create a retrospective collection of figures representing the history of prehistoric animals in art and pop-culture, in a style inspired by dinosaur toys of the 1970s and 1980s.

The first wave of Zealandia Models is comprised of three figures. Each of these figures is based on a popular or unique reconstruction from a specific era. Due to the outcome of the Retro Dinosaurs Kickstarter, there is an unspecified delay on the production time of the Retro Dinosaurs. Keep an eye out on the Zealandia Models Instagram page for updates about availability.

  • 1:10 Scale 1970s Compsognathus

This is the smallest of the first wave of Zealandia Models Retro Dinosaurs. The Compsognathus is rarely depicted in toys and models outside of a certain film franchise. This particular depiction is especially unique as it depicts Compsognathus corallestris, which, during the early 70s was proposed to have had webbed feet and flippers. It was often depicted near bodies of water or swimming.

  • 1:35 Scale 1960s Iguanodon

The Iguanodon has had many incarnations throughout its long presence in palaeoart. This Iguanodon is based on a popular 1960s reconstruction, which features the ever-charming thumbs-up pose popular throughout the mid to late-20th Century.

  • 1:35 Scale 1930s Tyrannosaurus Rex

Possibly the most famous prehistoric animal of all time, it goes without saying that a retro-Rex needed to be included in the initial Zealandia Models lineup. This version is based on a 1930s depiction, one that has influenced countless depictions of Tyrannosaurus Rex throughout the past century. This is the largest figure of the three, at a whopping 33cm long.
